Raising Mothers is a people-first platform. If you are looking to collaborate with a dynamic group of women dedicated to publishing the narratives of those most underserved in the literary landscape, we welcome you.

We are authors, editors, facilitators, community leaders, educators, mothers and collectively we are dedicated to magnifying and celebrating the fullness of parenthood and selfhood within the global majority. In our ninth year, we are focused on increasing our reach and also deepening our relationships with our core readers. We are looking for a few good people to join us on this journey to create more space for our stories and our lives.

Fiction Editors

Raising Mothers is excited to announce that we're expanding our editorial team! We're currently seeking two dedicated volunteer fiction editors to help shape the compelling narratives that our readers have come to love and expect.

We're specifically seeking candidates for two positions:

  • Fiction Editor

  • Assistant Fiction Editor

The ideal candidates for these roles will be:

  • Collaborative team players with exceptional communication skills

  • Self-starters capable of efficiently managing multiple tasks

  • Possessing a keen eye for smart, compelling storytelling

  • Committed to maintaining the high quality of work we publish

  • Able to dedicate up to 5 hours per week or 20 hours per month (this is very flexible)

  • Flexible and understanding of life's various obligations

  • Preferably experienced in editorial work (previous experience is preferred)

As a Fiction Editor at Raising Mothers, you'll have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of writers, helping to shape and polish stories that resonate with our readership. You'll be part of a supportive, dynamic team dedicated to amplifying crucial voices in the literary world.

Programs Manager

We're seeking a creative and organized Programs Manager to develop and execute engaging initiatives that increase readership, boost membership, and strengthen our community. This role is pivotal in nurturing our vibrant literary ecosystem and expanding our reach.

The ideal candidate will orchestrate compelling monthly chats, work in conjunction with Literary Liberation to promote workshops, and spearhead creative programs that resonate with our diverse audience.

Your mission will be to forge meaningful connections among readers, writers, and industry professionals, while strategically growing our membership base. This role requires a passionate advocate for underrepresented voices in literature, someone who understands the unique challenges and perspectives of parent-writers, and can create inclusive spaces for dialogue and creativity. Your innovative approach will be key in developing partnerships, securing guest speakers, and crafting experiences that not only entertain but also educate and inspire our community. If you're a creative problem-solver with a track record of building engaged communities in the literary world, and you're excited about the intersection of parenthood and diverse storytelling, we want to hear from you. Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and host monthly chat events for our audience

  • Develop innovative programs to engage readers and writers

  • Collaborate with the editorial team to align programs with content strategy

  • Analyze program performance and implement improvements

  • Organize virtual or in-person writing retreats for parent-writers

  • Develop and manage an annual calendar of events and programs

  • Create and oversee online courses or webinars featuring Raising Mothers authors

  • Establish partnerships with literary organizations, bookstores, and writing programs

Qualifications:

  • Experience in community building or literary event planning

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with diverse literary genres and global cultures

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Passion for supporting underrepresented voices in literature

  • Able to dedicate up to 5 hours per week or 20 hours per month (this is very flexible)

Preferred:

  • Background in publishing or literary arts

  • Experience with virtual event platforms

  • Understanding of parenting challenges and interests


A note on payment:

Raising Mothers has always operated as a volunteer-run platform and we are actively working towards creating stipends for our editorial team and general operations. We have taken steps toward creating a more sustainable model for us. We are grateful for everyone who has interacted with us in any capacity, especially those who have volunteered their time to bolstering our mission.
